You must be 18 or older to volunteer at our shelter. If you are interested in any of the following opportunities, please email contact@sbacc.org stating your interest, and include your phone number.
Dog Walking and Socialization
We make sure our dogs get out of their kennels and walk 3 times a day, wind, rain, or shine! Walks are generally 30 minutes in duration and shifts are 7am-10am, 10am-4pm, 4pm-6:00pm. Socializing hours are from 9am-7pm. We give you the flexibility to walk on the day(s) you want and the shift you want. Call or email the shelter to get signed up for a Dog Orientation class!
Dog Grooming
Are you an experienced/trained dog groomer willing to give your services for free? A well-groomed dog will often attract a new owner faster than a scruffy one, so if you would like to lend your paws to help keep our dogs clean and stylish, we would be happy for the help!
Cat Volunteering
The more socialization that cats and kittens receive, the more adoptable they become. And who doesn’t want to snuggle or play with an adorable kitty? Shy, timid cats particularly need your time and attention. In addition to socialization, we need help scooping litter boxes, keeping our common rooms neat and clean, and doing dishes and laundry.
Cat Orientations
Cat Orientations for 2023 will take place on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the shelter from 11-12:30. To request a spot in an upcoming class, email contact@sbacc.org with your name, phone number, email address and a short statement on your interest in volunteering at the shelter. The volunteer coordinator for Cat Orientations will contact you by email within a week, to confirm a class spot (remember to check your spam). Each class will have a maximum of 6 people. Orientations are held at the shelter. Our cats look forward to your visits. They love socializing with humans, playing, enjoying lots of pets, and getting the attention they need to prepare them for their forever homes.
Kitten Foster Program
Love kittens? We also need foster homes for the many kittens who are adopted through our Foster Care Program (FCP) each year. Please read more about the foster program by clicking on the preceding link. If you think you would like to foster, fill out the Feline Foster Care Application. Once we receive your application, you will be contacted by our foster care coordinator.
Fundraising & Special Events
Do you have event planning experience, fresh ideas, and a passion for creative fundraising? Our Fundraising Committee is looking for volunteers to help us plan, organize and staff a variety of fun community events. Events like our Pets Ahoy fundraiser held at the Seal Beach Yacht Club, the Seal Beach Lions Fish Fry or the Seal Beach Chamber Arts and Crafts Fair. We host bake sales throughout the year so if baking is your passion, please email Laura Hendrickson at lauramax101@yahoo.com. We are in particular need of social media fundraising ideas and could also use creative writers, graphic artists and grant writers. All money raised goes directly to the housing, feeding, and caring for our dogs and cats.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! Our dogs and cats salute you!
