The shelter suffered an immense and unexpected loss this weekend. Our darling ambassador, Bryce, passed away Sunday morning. He passed over while being comforted by some of his closest friends. Bryce brought so much love and laughter to the shelter, blessing us every day with his sassy and full personality. He was the biggest diva, wanting all eyes and hands on him at all times. Bryce loved all his many many friends here, as well as his almost daily car rides. Such a charmer this boy was, everyone who met him was sure to fall in love, whether it be a volunteer at the shelter, a stranger as he was out for a walk, or even the staff at the vet office. This kid did not know what the term “stranger” meant, everybody was just another friend who could give him some love and attention. However the diva would come out if you were giving another dog attention, as he would get up and bark at you to remind you that he was there and needed attention too.
Bryce was the best sport about being dressed up, putting up with all the costumes, hats, or bandannas we would put on him for pictures. However, he LOVED to wear your sunglasses. He would waddle around the yard with them on, never taking them off, just strutting his stuff.
He was also the best greeter there was. When he saw you walking up to his run, he would hop up to his feet with the biggest smile on his face. Then he would go find a toy to pick up and bring to the door with him to greet you. Even in the yard, anytime someone new came up, he would search for the perfect toy then come hustling over to say hello. The shelter recently started using him as our “ambassador” who we brought out to welcome any visitors to the shelter. Whether it be donors, clubs, little scouts, or even a class from the neighboring school. Bryce was the best one for the job, as he loved every single person that he met.
This has been a devastating loss for our little community here, one we will need lots of time to get over. We will cherish our memories with this sweet boy, there are just too many to share. That big smile as he waddled over to greet you, or as he sat in the back seat of the car just as happy as can be, riding with the window down. We will continue to share our countless happy memories with each other as we work through this loss. There will never be another dog like him, he was a character, and truly one of a kind. Run free baby boy, we will never forget you.
