Barney is a handsome, 3 year old, red Doberman. He came to us after being found as a stray, completely emaciated and his skin in poor condition. We suspect the white stripe around his muzzle comes from having it taped shut multiple times. Now, he did not have the tape on when he came to us, but it is the most likely scenario. He weighed a puny 40lbs when he first go to us, but he has now passed 70lbs.
Barney went on a field trip, away from the shelter, where we were able to learn a lot about him. He was the PERFECT boy, all day long. His day started with a trip to the Long Beach Harbor, for a nice little boat ride. Barney waited patiently for his duffy to be ready, then proceeded to walk onto the boat seamlessly without needing to be coaxed at all.
He stayed right next to his human buddy, just sitting and admiring the view and the ride. Seeing him pass by in the boat just plastered smiles on all the people they came across. The boat ride was so relaxing, that he was falling asleep on the way back to the harbor.
After the boat ride, on the way back to the car for Barney’s next adventure, they passed a big group that shouted “Hey! That’s the dog we saw on the boat!!”. Barney was PERFECT with the entire group, but took a liking to a little girl about 6-7 yers old. He gently leaned against her as she pet his side.
After the boat he made his was down to Belmont Shore where he made lots of new friend while visiting The Dog Bakery. Then when the humans stopped for lunch, Barney laid at their feet on the patio and slept. He did well with both people and dogs walking past him.
Barney has been through so much, yet is just a gentle and loving dog. His favorite place to be is next to his people with a toy to play with.
