Hi, I’m Kai. I was rescued from the side of the freeway when I was a tiny kitten. My tail was injured and had to be amputated. I had a home with the man who rescued me for my whole life. Sadly, he became very ill and passed away. A friend of his took me but couldn’t keep me and brought me to SBACC so I could find another home. I am only five years old and very handsome with soft black fur and beautiful eyes. I’m also friendly and affectionate and have lots of love to give to a new Mom or Dad or even a whole family. I enjoy pets and belly rubs and will purr in appreciation.
Joan Jett
Hi, I’m Joan Jett. I was rescued from the street by an SBACC volunteer and had a terrible respiratory infection when I arrived. It didn’t get better with antibiotics, and it turned out that I had a nasal polyp. I had surgery to have it removed, and I now feel like a new kitty. I have lots of energy and am a friendly, playful and affectionate girl. I hope to find my forever home real soon.
O’Malley, aka Buddy
Hi, I’m O’Malley. I had a home at one time but found myself living outside until a kind person brought me to SBACC when I was about two years old. I was very shy and wouldn’t come out of my cubby to meet people, so I remained at SBACC for about 14 months until I was adopted by a really nice man who had a 14-year-old female cat who had just lost two lifetime feline friends and needed a buddy. He called me Buddy, but I never really responded to it. I was about three years old and weighed around 21 pounds when I was adopted. I tried to make friends with my new sister, who weighed only 12 pounds. She was not having any of it, even though she was acting lonely after losing her older buddies. Part of the problem was that I was full of energy and wanted to play and run around. After nearly two years, things got to the point where the other cat just wouldn’t accept me, and my Dad decided that returning me to SBACC was the best thing for both of us. He was very sad about this, and there are some things he would like you to know about me. When he adopted me, I hid for about two weeks until I felt safe. Then I started one of my favorite things, which is rubbing against your leg while wrapping my tail around your leg while purring and then running through the house as fast as I could. Once I settled in, I became your typical orange cat, acting the clown and exploring every inch of the home. I am very smart and can open cabinets and drawers, and I like to sit on the couch with my human, watching TV, mostly the Nature Channel, until a big cat comes on the screen and scares me. I like to be petted on my head, back, throat, and chest, but I am not a fan of having my belly rubbed except on occasions when I fall asleep on the couch next to my human and will roll over for just a few strokes. My Dad said I am a great cat and need a home where I will be given time to get accustomed to the new surroundings. He thinks I need a home with another young cat to play with, but I would probably be OK as an only cat if I get lots of attention and play time from my family.
Acorn
Acorn is a 9 month old Chihuahua mix who is just cute as can be! She was previously kept in a backyard, all alone, so she can be shy at first. It does not take her long to warm up, and oh does she love to go out for walks! Acorn also gets along with other dogs.
Sophie
Hi, I’m Sophie. I originally came to SBACC as a two-month-old kitten who was in terrible shape and very scared. I spent about a month in a foster home and was adopted about a month after returning to SBACC. I remained very shy, but the couple who adopted me was OK with that. I guess they just didn’t expect me to stay shy forever, and after more than a year, they decided to bring me back to SBACC. I’m still shy and spend a lot of time in my cubby, but I enjoy pets, and I have the softest fur imaginable. I do emerge from my cubby when it’s quiet, and I know I need a quiet home with someone who will have the time and patience to draw me out of my shell.
Onyx
Onyx came to us through no fault of her own, her family was heartbroken over having to give her up. Unfortunately a child in the home developed severe dog allergies, and had to be hospitalized.
While the family looked to rehome her, they had to now keep her separated from the children, which ended up causing her to go into a bit of a depression- losing interest in food, and ultimately losing quite a bit of weight.
Now that she has settled in here at the shelter, her weight is heading in the right direction! Her ideal weight range is around 65-70lbs.
After a few days of getting used to her new environment, her real personality started to come out. Onyx is such a goofy and loving girl!! She loves to play with toys, and chase tennis balls in the yard. Onyx rides well in the car, walks pretty easy on leash, and is super affectionate!
Onyx is dog friendly, kid friendly, and get along with cats as well! She is a very smart girl, who would take to training very well. In fact she already knows a few commands and is housebroken!
Debbie Hairy
Hi, I’m Debbie Hairy. When I was rescued from the street and brought to SBACC, I was given the silly name of Debbie Hairy because I have long hair. I’d be happy to have you change my name when you adopt me. I’m a friendly girl, but right now, I’m hanging out in my cubby and acting kinda shy. A photo-taking volunteer coerced me out of my cubby to get a pic showing more of me but I didn’t stay out for long. I just need a little more time to get used to being in a new place.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is an adorable, 8 moth old, terrier mix who is ready for her next big adventure…finding her forever home!! She is such a good walker, always ready to go explore with you. This girl is all puppy, she is spunky, silly, and so sweet!!
Kitten Azul
Hi, I’m Azul. My brother, Astro, and I have the distinction of being the first kittens to come to SBACC in 2025. We were 11 weeks old, and we were rescued and brought to SBACC after our Mama had abandoned us. We need a little time to get used to being at SBACC, and we’re both a little shy but slowly starting to relax and come out of our shells. When a visitor picked me up and held me for a while, I realized it felt good, and I bet I could turn into a cuddly kitty. Astro and I have been together our whole life and love to play and cuddle together, so it would be great if we could go to our forever home together, but a home with another kitten or young cat would be OK, too. I probably could even be an only cat if I had a Mom or Dad who was home a lot and had lots of time for me. I’m with Astro in two of the pics.
