We are often asked what do you look for in an adoptive family? The short answer is a family who will provide a safe environment, follow through with specific instructions, and show patience and love.
These families come in many different types as do our animals. Each rescue’s needs and those of the adoptive family vary. Animals differ in many ways: Small vs. big, young vs. old, high energy vs. couch potato, social vs. reserved, medical issues or not, special diets or not, and prior trauma or not. Based on each animal’s personality and current needs, we may identify an animal that should be matched to an experienced pet family as well as identify an animal that would be perfect for a first-time pet owner.
The bottom line is that we take our time to make the best match for our animals and their new families. We want everyone to succeed and cherish their new family member! Please answer all our adoption questions. If you would like to add special notes to your application, please do so. Thank you for supporting our mission to find loving families for homeless cats and dogs.
To See a Puppy or Dog
To see a puppy or dog, you can either call us at 562-430-4993 or click on the “Click Here to See a Dog” link below to fill out and submit a short form visit request. Someone will call you to get additional information. If there is a match, we will schedule an appointment for you to meet one or more of our dogs. We also are happy to help “walk-ins”, if we are not too busy with an appointment. We are not able to welcome walk-ins on Wednesdays. Please fill out a LONG FORM-DOG APPLICATION only when instructed to do so. Please understand that the appointment is to assess the animal/family match and may not end in an adoption.
To See a Kitten or Cat
To see a kitten or cat, you can either email us at contact@sbacc.org or click on the “Click Here to See a Cat” link below to fill out and submit a short form visit request. You will receive an email from shelteradmin@sbacc.org to schedule a visiting appointment for you to meet our cats or kittens. Be sure to check your spam folder. After a visiting appointment you can submit an application if there is a cat or kitten you are interested in adopting. You are also welcome to complete a LONG FORM-CAT APPLICATION for a cat or kitten to be considered prior to visiting and you will be contacted for review of the application. If your application is approved, you will be scheduled for an appointment to select a cat or kitten and an adoption can be completed at that time. We also are happy to accommodate “walk-ins”, if we are not busy with an appointment.
