Volunteering
The Seal Beach Animal Care Center has volunteers of all ages who help keep our animals exercised, socialized, trained and entertained while they are awaiting adoption. If you are at least 18 years old and love animals, you might be just the volunteer we are looking for!
Not only do our volunteers work and play with our adoptable pets, they also staff the office during business hours, help organize fundraisers, work at offsite adoption events, and plan special events. Of course, there are some less glamorous responsibilities as well, such as doing the laundry or cleaning litter boxes. Volunteering at the Care Center is a great way to get exercise, learn new skills, have fun, and meet new friends!
BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
The first step toward becoming a volunteer is to attend a Volunteer Orientation Session. You must be at least 18 years old and these sessions are open to, and required of, all prospective volunteers. Dog Orientation sessions are conducted the first and third Saturdays, and Cat Orientation sessions are conducted the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Care Center beginning at 10:30am, and last approximately 1.5 hours. Orientation Sessions are limited in number of people per class and you must register in advance. Please call or come in to sign up.
Because the Care Center is staffed almost entirely by volunteers, there are many ways in which you can become involved. We need dog walkers in the early a.m. EVERY day (7:00-10:00 am), and again in the evening (3:00- 6:00pm). We also need volunteers to help with the daily closing activities for the cats, usually from 4:00-6:00pm. We get so busy that sometimes the shy, sad cats are overlooked, so they really need your help. We also need foster homes for the many kittens who are adopted through our Foster Care Program (FCP) each year. And our animals can always use a little TLC, so you can come play with the cats or dogs any time of the day (someone is usually around from 6am-6pm daily). You can even become a special friend to a particular cat or dog and work with this animal to make it more social and better behaved and, thus, more adoptable. So you see, there is really something for everyone and we would love to have you join us! For more information, please email us at
